Physiotherapist

Declan is an experienced physiotherapist who has worked across a number of clinical areas since graduating from university. He has predominantly worked in the rehabilitation setting with specific experience in neurorehabilitation.

Declan graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. Since graduating, he has gained clinical experiencing in the community rehabilitation setting, working frequently with those recovering or managing neurological disorders. Declan has experience in working with people managing these conditions, with a strong focus around participant centred goal setting to enable people to get back to completing meaningful tasks within the community. Declan is also quite passionate about educating the future allied health workforce and has been a physiotherapy clinical educator for students from James Cook University for a number of years now.

Declan’s interest areas include:

  • Neurological rehabilitation (stroke and other brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy)
    • Assessment of mobility
    • Prescription of exercise in both the individual and group setting
    • Participant integration into community participation
  • Spinal cord injury: assessment and management
  • Participant centred goal setting
  • Task oriented/goal specific rehabilitation
  • Aquatic therapy/return to swimming
  • Running retrain for those with brain injury
