Join us for a Multidisciplinary Workshop for Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

We are excited to bring an expert panel to North Queensland to discuss all aspects of multidisciplinary practice for FND. This 1 day, lecture-based workshop will be led by an experienced team who specialise in treatment & management of FND.

Presenters

Dr David Palmer – Neurologist, Queensland Health

Dr Palmer is a movement disorders neurologist at Nambour & Sunshine Coast University Hospitals with a clinical & research interest in FND. He is the neurologist for the Sunshine Coast multidisciplinary FND treatment clinic, & before moving to Australia, founded New Zealand’s first multidisciplinary FND treatment clinic. He is also currently undertaking a PhD researching mechanisms of brain processing that might cause FND.

Dr Andrew Charmley – Advisor Neurologist, Townsville University Hospital

Trained in Movement Disorders at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Dr Charmley has experience in the previous Mater Hospital Brisbane Functional Neurological Disorders clinic with Dr Lehn & also at Townsville University Hospital as a Consultant Neurologist for the last 18 months.

Dr Megan Broughton – Clinical Psychologist & Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr Broughton is a Clinical Psychologist & Neuropsychologist who works privately treating clients with functional neurological disorders & other neurological conditions. She was part of Australia’s first multidisciplinary public FND clinic & enjoys providing training to health professionals & researching in the area.

Vince Cheah – Nurse Navigator, Metro South Health Movement Disorders Team

Mr Cheah is a Nurse Navigator & began his career at the Mater Centre for Neurosciences. Vince currently works with the Metro South Movement Disorder Team where he works closely with the Brisbane FND team to deliver nationwide education, develop open source FND resources & promote the QLD FND special interest group across the QLD Hospital Health Services.

Rielan Newell – Physiotherapist, Mater Centre for Neurosciences

Mr Newell is a Physiotherapist & Exercise Physiologist who began his carer at the Mater Centre for Neurosciences working for Active Rehabilitation Physiotherapy. He works closely with the Brisbane FND team & the QLD FND special interest group, whilst still working for Active Rehabilitation Physiotherapy. He is also a committee member for the Qld Neurology Branch of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

  • To consider the biopsychosocial model of FND
  • To explore the variability in presentation, treatment and outcomes for individuals with FND
  • To understand the specific roles of each discipline in the management of FND
  • To understand how implementing a multidisciplinary approach can lead to self-management for those with FND
