2 Day OT Home Mod Workshop – Online

This OT Home Mod Workshop aims to provide the fundamentals in Home Modification for Occupational Therapists, and building and design professionals.

The course will assist in creating and modifying existing private dwellings to suit the specific needs of the client to help them remain in their home and participate in community living.

Alliance Rehabilitation is proud to host this event as part of our continuing support of the North Queensland health industry.

Learning Outcomes

Day 1: Introduction to Home Modifications:

  • An understanding of current models of practice and the application of clinical reasoning
  • Information on the relevance and application of AS 1428.1 (2021) and other standards to home modification practice
  • Information on diagrams of interest in AS 1428.1 (2021)
  • A review of measuring the person, their equipment and carer
  • A review of measuring the built environment
  • Information on how to translate the various measurements into features in the built environment
  • A review of drawing to scale by hand and drawing apps
  • Information on essential detail to include in OT reports
  • Information on research and practice relating to grabrail prescription
  • Resource information to enhance practice

Day 2: Complex Home Modifications:

  • Examples of factors that make home modifications complex
  • Basic principles for planning home modifications
  • Legislation, code and standard issues impacting on planning
  • Technical considerations when modifying areas around the home
  • Typical barriers and solutions
  • Resources for practice

  • This Workshop will not be recorded and will be a live event only.
  • A certificate of attendance will be provided after the event.
