Standard Appointments
Face-to-face or In-clinic sessions are our standard type of therapy we offer. Face-to-face appointments are generally regarded as having the best therapy outcomes due to fewer communication barriers and a greater access to equipment. Our clinics are stocked with consumables, specialist assessments and therapy equipment to support a wide range of requirements.
An appointment in a clinic also gives you the opportunity to be physically active and allows for a clinician to observe your movement and behavior in everyday settings. It is a standard process to encourage you to visit one of our clinics for at least the initial appointment.
Telehealth is also a great alternative for those who live far away, those with autoimmune issues, or who simply can’t get to a clinic due to busy schedules. Common telehealth appointments include mental health sessions, dietetics, diabetes education, and speech therapy. All of our disciplines are able to be accessed by telehealth where appropriate.
Report writing is another service we deliver. This is time for a clinician to complete the (often-lengthy) process of collating information from your previous assessments and writing reports to support you.
Resource Prep sessions are completed by the clinician without you attending an appointment. This is vital background work your healthcare team does to make sure you get the best care possible. It’s similar to when a chef prepares ingredients before cooking – it’s all about making sure everything is ready for your session. Occasionally our clinical software will notify you of Resource Prep appointment but will state “Do not attend” as you will not be required to be present for this task.
Travel Appointments
Home visits may be required for some types of therapy or assessment such as home modifications, assistive technology, observation, and manual handling protocols.
Public spaces are sometimes used such as parks, walking tracks and gyms if they are identified in a participant’s goals. Our services such as hydrotherapy are also conducted at public pools as they have adequate equipment and access requirements that are needed for safety.
School visits are generally reserved for when a clinician specifically needs to observe a participant in their learning environment. School visits can be complicated to organise as there are often multiple stakeholders (school administrators, teachers, parents, coordinators, personal carers, SIL houses) that need to be engaged, and permissions sought, to successfully complete these sessions. These visits are made on a case-by-case basis and only when deemed clinically necessary.
On-Road Assessments are carried out with an OT and a Driving Instructor in a driving school vehicle with dual controls. The OT will observe from the rear seat to assess the potential affects your illness or injury may have on your driving skills. This follows an Off-Road (meaning in-clinic) Assessment which assesses your physical abilities, knowledge of road rules and signs, & strategic thinking skills.
Ad hoc outreach appointments outside of the Townsville and Mackay regions are also arranged on a case-by-case basis. These services generally involve more travel planning and calendar rescheduling. We can assist with quotations for these services to ensure our service fits within your budget. These services may also require deposits in order to secure.
