June through to August were busy months with events in and around Alliance. Here are a few of the highlights, in no particular order:

Planning Day & Guest speaker

Our wonderful team gathered for our annual planning day in July to provide feedback and ideas, so we maintain the highest quality of service to our local community. Thank you again to our guest speaker, Theodore Kuchar, a multiple award-winning conductor and Artistic Director of the Barrier Reef Orchestra who was busy preparing for the upcoming Australian Chamber Music Festival. AR also celebrated turning 8 with celebrations with the team 70’s vs 90’s fancy dress party.

Townsville NAIDOC Week 2024 Sponsorship

Thank you once again to Townsville NAIDOC for such a great week of events. Our Social Worker Kate attended the Corporate Breakfast for a morning of celebration and catching up with the community. Sadly, our team couldn’t make the Deadly Day out this year with a planning day clash, but we look forward to next year!

Alliance Rehabilitation is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the Townsville NAIDOC Week as we celebrate the achievements and cultures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Running Festival Team

Congratulations to all our team members who competed at the Townsville Running Festival. We had entrants in the 5km Queensland Country Health Fund Corporate challenge, 7NEWS 10k Classic, and the Townsville Airport Marathon.

Parkinson’s Qld Townsville

We had the opportunity to be part of Parkinson’s QLD Townsville event series. Alongside Dr Richard White & Professor Brian Wood, our Exercise Physiologist Jacinta & Speech Pathologist Elissa loved being able to share their knowledge & experience with such a welcoming group.

Avanti Expo Mackay

Thank you to Avanti Health Centre Mackay and SALT Directory for hosting the Over 50s Expo. Elissa & Nicola were kept busy chatting with lots of fellow providers, community members, local social clubs and volunteers.

Oasis Cooking Group August

At this free workshop for the Veterans, our experienced dietitian Kate assisted to provide evidence-based insights on nutrition and guide attendees through the process of creating a delicious and nutritious chickpea burger from scratch. The aim of these classes is to learn practical tips and tricks to incorporate healthy choices into your everyday life, without sacrificing flavour or convenience.

The Oasis Cooking Groups are open to all individuals who are interested in cultivating sustainable healthy habits. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a beginner in the kitchen, our workshop caters to all skill levels and provides a supportive environment for learning and growth. Best of all, participation in this workshop is absolutely free! We believe that everyone deserves access to the knowledge and tools necessary for a healthy lifestyle.

Visit The Oasis to check out their upcoming programs for the rest of 2024.

National Servicemen’s Association

Sarah, one of our Speech Pathologists, was asked to present at the National Servicemen’s Association at the Townsville RSL. Sarah introduced our service and discussed speech related issues with attendees. We hope to meet again soon in November for our next installment with our Exercise Physiologist Jacinta.

MAT Training

Alliance Rehabilitation hosted Permobil Practical Introduction into the Mechanical Assessment Tool (MAT). The focus of this session was recognising reducible vs non-reducible asymmetries.

We had a number of health clinicians from the community attend, along with our team, to gain understanding and confidence to complete the MAT and demonstrate how to use this information/assessment within their practice.

Visiting French Duathlon & Triathlon Teams

Congratulations to the visiting French team for their recent success at the World Multisport Championships in Townsville. Alliance Rehabilitation’s Physiotherapy team was more than happy to provide some therapy equipment to their support team. Thanks for the gift, Clément! Read More here:

Seniors Expo

We recently attended the Seniors Lifestyle Expo at Townsville Stadium. This event, organised by the Townsville City Council, provided a great opportunity for many local businesses to connect with seniors and other organisations to see what they have to offer. This year’s theme was “Garden Party”, and it was great to see everyone dress up their stalls (and themselves). We gave away many, many lolly cocktails along with service info (with some surprise seeds to plant!).
